Accelerated Second Degree CEIN/BS Admission Prerequisite Checklist

Revised August 2025 for the 2027 cohort

☐  ATI TEAS Test Requirement is required at the time of application and must have been earned within one year of enrollment. A minimum score of a 72% . A maximum of two TEAS test attempts will be considered for admission. The TEAS test is an online exam which will be proctored remotely by ATI.

About the TEAS: The ATI TEAS test is comprised of 170 questions. Students have 209 minutes to complete the exam. For more information please visit https://www.atitesting.com/teas/exam-details.

 

☐ Apply for the CEIN/BS program using the Nursing CAS system.

Pay a $65.00 application fee directly to CAS to utilize the CAS system: http://www.nursingcas.org/

 

Pay the $75 application fee to the UConn School of Nursing: Pay online here.

 

☐ Resume

 

Two letters of recommendation: Obtain two letters of recommendation. At least one must be academic. The second may be from an employer, class instructor, or colleague (no relatives or personal friends) that can write to the following: professionalism, communication skills (verbal & written), leadership, time management, accountability, organization, time management, self-motivation, and potential for success in an accelerated bachelor’s program.

Follow directions in the CAS system for letters of recommendation. Start this process at least 4-6 weeks before your desired submission date. Confirm that references have been completed and uploaded. Missing letters of recommendation will prevent application review.

 

☐  A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, with a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0, is required. The degree must be conferred by August 31 of the calendar year preceding the start of the applicant’s intended cohort.

Performance in the prerequisite courses is also evaluated. See page 2.

 

☐  Responses to short answer and essay questions are required.

 

☐  Official transcripts from all institutions of higher learning, showing evidence of prior degrees and courses completed. Prerequisite courses must have the required grades listed on page 2 of this checklist.

Double check that transcripts have been uploaded to CAS after you order them. Missing transcripts will prevent review of your application.

 

☐  The following courses are required. UConn courses are listed, and applicants may choose to take an approved equivalent course at another institution.

**Applicants MUST review the Transfer Credit Equivalency website to confirm that your course will be accepted as an equivalent to the listed UConn courses below. If your course is not listed on this website, please contact nursingadmissions@uconn.edu.

☐  Biology: Must be a B- or BETTER within 8 years (lab not required)

UConn BIOL 1107, or an approved equivalency

☐  Microbiology: MUST be a B- or BETTER – within 8 years (lab not required)

UConn MCB 2610 or an approved equivalency

☐  Chemistry with lab*: MUST be a B- or BETTER – within 8 years

UConn CHEM 1122, CHEM 1124Q, CHEM 1127Q or CHEM 1128Q or an approved equivalency.

* We will accept in-person, online or hybrid lab courses.

☐  Anatomy and Physiology I with lab*: MUST be a B- or BETTER – within 8 years

UConn PNB 2264 or PNB 2774, or an approved equivalency

* We will accept in-person, online or hybrid lab courses.

☐  Anatomy and Physiology II with lab*: MUST be a B- or BETTER – within 8 years

UConn PNB 2265 or PNB 2775 & 2776, or an approved equivalency

* We will accept in-person, online or hybrid lab courses.

☐  Undergraduate Statistics: MUST be a C or BETTER – within 8 years

UConn STAT 1000Q, 1100Q or an approved equivalency

Note: Applicants can have no more than two outstanding prerequisites. Applicants can take no more than 1 prerequisite course in the Fall 2026 semester. Proof of enrollment in these classes MUST be uploaded to your application. Proof of enrollment can be a picture of your registration, a Bursar’s receipt, or a transcript showing the course name, semester, and your name. All prerequisite courses MUST be completed and official transcripts submitted by December 31, 2026 in order to begin the program in January 2027.

 

☐  English Proficiency Requirement: A Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IETLS) exam is required if born or educated outside of the United States of America (USA). *The School of Nursing does not accept Duolingo*.  Applicants to the CEIN/BS program must have a score of 92 or higher on the TOEFL, or a minimum overall band score of 8 on the IETLS, with a minimum of 7 for each section. ☐  Evaluation of Foreign Transcripts: A NACES accredited agency must evaluate all foreign transcripts to determine United States equivalencies for degrees and diplomas earned abroad. For more information, visit https://www.naces.org/about
